9th Cheam (St. Andrews) Scout Group 50 Years 1956 - 2006

SUNDAY 17th SEPTEMBER 2006

After a lovely service led by George Watt, our minister, and Wil North (Youth Worker and ASL), current and former members of the group met in the Miles Hall to celebrate 50 years of Scouting at 9th Cheam St Andrews. Old friendships were renewed and everybody had a fantastic time catching up.

9th Cheam - 50 Years Ago

It was wonderful to see so many old members of the group able to make it along, including several original members of the Cub Pack and the Scout Group. It was extra special to see Jim Elliot, the groups first Group Scout Master who took over the running of the troop in 1957. There were excellent displays of pictures and memorabilia organised by Doug Chalmers, Paul and Pat Taylor, Margaret Holmes and the current leader team, including memorabilia from Kandersteg 1957 and the 1959 10th World Jamboree in the Philippines.

It was great to see old connections being renewed, it was particularly nice for me to be able to reintroduce my Akela and Scout Leader Paul Taylor with one of his old Scout Leaders, Doug Chalmers!

Over the coming weeks I am hoping to populate this page with several pictures of the event and some of the examples of memorabilia - if you'd like to contribute, please do e-mail me at gsl@9thcheam.co.uk.

See you in 2031 for our 75th Celebrations!
